Paweł Kowal

An expert in Eastern Policy, he graduated the Jagiellonian University, and defended his doctoral dissertation in 2011 at the Institute of Political Studies of the Polish Academy of Sciences.

Specializations: POLISH POLICY ON THE EASTERN FRONT, INTERNATIONAL AFFAIRS, CULTURAL POLICY, 20TH CENTURY HISTORY 

From 1998 to 2000, he worked at the Chancellery of the Prime Minister, where he served, among other roles, as Head of a Division in the Department of Foreign Affairs. From 2000 to 2001, he served as Acting Director of the Department of International Cooperation and European Integration at the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage. In 2005, Paweł Kowal was elected as a Member of the Polish Parliament (Sejm). During his term, he served as Chair of the Committee on Culture and Media, and as a member of the Foreign Affairs Committee (2005–2006). From July 2006 to November 2007, he held the position of Secretary of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

In 2000, he was elected as a Member of the European Parliament, where he focused primarily on the European Union’s relations with post-Soviet states, especially Ukraine. His work in this area led to his appointment as Chair of the EU–Ukraine Parliamentary Committee.
