We are pleased to announce that the Casimir Pulaski Foundation has joined the Albatros II – MENA project, which aims to study the impact of disinformation and external propaganda on the societies of Lebanon, Iraq, and Egypt. Together with INFO OPS Poland Foundation and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, we will conduct an in-depth analysis of how countries such as Russia and China use information tools to influence politics, the economy, international relations, and democratic values in the Global South.
What is the Albatros II – MENA project?
The Albatros II – MENA project focuses on countering disinformation and information threats that undermine democratic values, harm international relations, and negatively affect Poland’s image in Lebanon, Iraq, and Egypt. The project aims to examine the influence of disinformation and propaganda on the societies of the MENA region, develop a report, create defense strategies, and implement recommendations to strengthen resilience to these threats.
Why is this important?
Lebanon, Iraq, and Egypt, as countries in the Global South, hold strategic significance for the entire region due to their geographical location and specific political, economic, and social conditions. This makes them particularly vulnerable to external influences, including Foreign Malign Influence (FIMI). Understanding how countries such as Russia, China, Iran, Belarus, and Turkey influence these nations and how their propaganda affects local societies is crucial.
Objectives and Outcomes of the Project:
The Albatros II – MENA project aims to provide reports, analyses, and defense strategies against disinformation and manipulation that threaten the stability and security of countries in the region. Additionally, we will work on raising social awareness and enhancing resilience to external interference.
Activities in Egypt, Iraq, and Lebanon:
Lebanon, Iraq, and Egypt are key countries in the Global South, and due to their location and political, economic, and social conditions, they hold strategic importance for the entire region. This increases the risk of external FIMI (Foreign Malign Influence). Therefore, it is crucial to understand how Russia, China, Iran, Belarus, and Turkey influence these countries and how their propaganda affects local communities.
Collaboration with Experts and Opinion Leaders:
Through collaboration with experts, local organizations, and decision-makers, the project aims to increase the resilience of societies to external manipulation. Our activities include educational campaigns for journalists, opinion leaders, and decision-makers to raise awareness of the threats posed by disinformation and external influence.
